I’ve got some bad news: The site crashed. Hard.

But, there’s some good news, as well! Now I’ve got a clean slate to do the upgrades I’ve been wanting.

So, here’s the plan:

1. Re-Upload all of the comic pages, starting with Issue ONE.

2. Re-Upload all of the character biographies — as many as I can find, at least. Some were written directly into the site, so… I’l do my best, but for those few of you that have the entire thing memorized, I’m sure there will be a few differences.

3. Rebuild the side bars and links — which is really a good thing. The previous sidebars had some technical issues that weren’t worth redoing at the time, but now that it’s forced there’s no excuse.

4. Repopulate all of the Extras/About/Creator Pages.

For those who also read The Guard, don’t worry, it’s safe. The hit affected only SOLDIERS.

If you want to know what happened, it was a save error. I was adjusting a piece of code to fix a discrepancy with WP 3.1 and the .php file scrambled when I hit “save”. This happens occasionally with Windows computers — can’t say why — it just happened at the worst possible time tonight. A freak accident, I suppose. Lessons to take away from this: One, always code in Linux. Two, make sure your backup is really backed up (I saved the files, but not the logic behind them, resulting in irretrievable data). Three, don’t do live coding, even when its a small adjustment (I should have taken the file offline, made the change, then uploaded). And, Four, don’t code tired…

Hopefully we’ll be back up quickly and the site will be better, faster, and smoother than ever before.
