Marvel’s Move into Digital Comics — the UWS Analysis
Here is the UWS Publishing analysis and commentary on the New Marvel Digital Strategy:
Last night around midnight my time, I got an e-mail from Comixology telling me Marvel titles were now available on their app. After looking at the screen for a second, I think I muttered something very similar to “holy crap…”
IAVA and Open Up Your Arms
Got this e-mail yesterday and wanted to spread the word.
OAR made a song and video in support of “Open Up Your Arms” Here is the video, and I’ll tell you more right below it
“War Song” by O.A.R. from IAVA on Vimeo.
Open Up Your Arms is a campaign to support and honor our veterans. They’re looking to gain 11,111 pledges by November 11th! I just signed up, and I know you will too. Show some support for a vet — go to OpenUpYourArms.org and sign up! It costs you nothing, and your support has power in pushing through veteran programs.
SOLDIERS Zero, Part Four is Posted
Frustrated by pointless patrols, MAJ Sterling is searching for an excuse.
SOLDIERS Zero, Part Four can be read here.
Digital Comics and the Baltimore Comic Con
I wrote this column for Comics Bulletin, it’s in their Silver Soapbox this week. Thought I would enter it here for two loyal readers as well…
Digital Comics, Webcomics, Zuda and Baltimore
by Rob McClellan
You know digital comics are maturing when you hold a panel and publishers show up – not to mention Newsarama and CBR. The Digital Comics panel on the first day of the Baltimore Comic Con had two publishers, a start-up CEO, a comics legend, and a Harvey nominee (and, later, a winner – but more on that in a bit).
SOLDIERS Zero, Part 3 is Released!
As two friends have a conversation in medical, we start to learn the true nature of the SOLDIERS.
SOLDIERS Zero, Part 2 is Up!
Enjoy and tell us what you think! Go here to read it. Don’t forget to vote for us at Top Web Comics.
SOLDIERS in the Press!
Comics Bulletin put up this great interview of Rob — you can read it here.
Broken Frontier has a piece on UWS and SOLDIERS — you can check that out here.
ZERO: Part 1
With the launch of the final cut of Zero, we have opened the site and welcome you all to SOLDIERS!
We will update SOLDIERS every Tuesday. Also, the book will be available for download for you iPod/iPhone and Kindle very soon — we’re still waiting for approval, shouldn’t be much longer and we’ll keep you posted.
SOLDIERS is written by me, and the art is by Martin Montiel, Chris Summers, and Charles Pritchett. I think they did an awesome job, personally. What do you all think? Leave a comment and let them know — I’m sure they’d appreciate the feedback.
This first episode is a pretty jarring, fast moving one centered on one of the most dangerous threats the services face today in theatre: IED’s. I was out on a convoy back in 2004 and was hit by one of these things in an unarmored vehicle — definitely not a fun experience. Driving in theatre is one of the most dangerous and nerve wracking activities you can do. In Iraq, heading down Route Irish was a run for your life nearly every day. And back then the IED’s weren’t as dangerous as they are now. It was just bundled mortar shells or rigged ANFO in 2004 — now it’s shaped charges and plasma cones.
Hopefully you’ve read this weeks episode already — write a comment and give us your thoughts.
Saw Our iPhone App Demo — It is Awesome!
Infurious Republic just sent me the final SOLDIERS iPhone app demo and it is incredible!
I’m serious here. The guys at IR really worked hard on this and took a great deal of care and thought in developing their app. The results are stunning. Far superior to what iVerse, Panelfly, and Comixology are offering.
Not sure how long it will take to get through the iTunes store review process, but hopefully it won’t be long. SOLDIERS will be on sale through iTunes for 99 cents — that’s a lot of comic goodness for under a buck!
